Spring Book Sale

The Friends Spring Book Sale took place June 2-4 and netted over $6,000, surpassing expectations. Thanks to all our volunteers and customers!

All proceeds go to the Library including support for online and in-library presentations and the Summer Reading Program.

We anticipate having another sale in the Fall and, following the success of the most recent sale, may well have another three day sale.

Regarding memberships in Friends of the Forest Grove Library: all previous memberships are valid through the end of 2022. At the Fall 2022 book sale, or after, you can renew your membership through the Fall 2023 sale.

Be sure to be informed of the dates of the Fall sale by subscribing to this website.

Book Sale Returns!

We are exited to announce our first in-person book sale in two years: Thursday-Saturday, June 2-4, in the Rogers Room at Forest Grove City Library. Hours will coincide with the Library’s open hours: Thursday 9:30-5:30, Friday and Saturday 9:30-6:30.

As usual, it takes many volunteers to have a successful sale. Set up will be on Wednesday, June 1, when you can get a first look at what will be for sale. Cashiers will be needed June 2-4. Take down will be the morning of Monday, June 6. As usual, all volunteers get two free books as a thank you.

If you are interested in helping with the sale, please contact Katie Allnutt, allnutt@frontier.com, or 503 357-0658. As the date approaches, we will be in touch with former volunteers to fill gaps in the schedule.

Friends of the Library Spring update

The Friends Board wants to briefly inform you about what the organization has been doing during the pandemic and what our plans are for an unusual annual meeting in April.

What we have been doing   The Library was closed to the public in March of 2020.  This suspended our normal work inside the building and forced cancellation of the usual Spring and Fall used book sales.  We did not hold a board meeting in April which would have been our usual annual meeting.  We resumed monthly board meetings via Zoom in May 2020.

Library staff continued to work in the building where they started an impressive array of online and curbside library services.  Friends have been funding many of these programs. The Library remains closed to the public.  We will not have a Spring 2021 used book sale but have some hopes for this fall.

Friends volunteers were granted limited access to the building beginning (essentially one Friends volunteer at a time) in June 2020.   The Library again accepted donations of books and Friends resumed processing donations for online book sales.  We have begun distribution of books to ‘little libraries’ in Forest Grove and have been providing free books for curbside distribution of children and, increasingly, to local non-profit organizations.  Please keep those donations coming.

Memberships   Our used book sales are our main occasion of contact members of Friends of the Forest Grove Library.  Membership renewals usually coincide with used book sales.  Absent the book sale, the Board has decided to extend all memberships to January 2022.

Annual meeting   Our 2021 annual meeting will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, April 10 at 5:30 pm.  The year’s activities will be reviewed, and officers elected.  If you would like to participate, please email Mike Smith (Friends President) at m2zsmith@msn.com.  A link will be sent to you so you can access the meeting.  Sorry, no refreshments this time.

Spring 2020 Used Book Sale put on hold

In response to the Coronavirus threat, to comply with city and state mandates and, most of all, for the safety of everyone, the scheduled Friends used book sale has been postponed until we can reschedule.
When a new date can be set we will post it on this website.
Be well, be safe, hunker down if you can.
