Fall Used Book Sale, October 22 – 27

The Friends Fall Book Sale will take place Monday, October 22 through Saturday, October 27 in the Rogers Room of the Forest Grove City Library, 2114 Pacific Avenue in Forest Grove.

Sale Hours are coordinated with Library open hours: Monday — Wednesday, 9:30 AM — 8 PM, Thursday — Saturday, 9:30 AM — 5 PM.

Membership has its privileges! On Wednesday, October 24, current Friends of the Library members get a 50% discount on all they purchase.

Memberships can be purchased or renewed at the door of the book sale.  Individual one-year memberships are $10, Family memberships $20, Contributing memberships $35 and Sustaining memberships $100.  A membership form is also available on this website: see the “join’ page.

On Friday and Saturday (9:30 — 5:00), all shoppers may fill standard grocery bags with books and other media and pay just $5 per bag.

Dealer Alert:  Friends volunteers have carefully combed through donations and library discards, looking for items that Friends can sell online.  Books and other media that we think we can sell online for $8 or more won’t be on sale at this twice-a-year on-site book sale.

You can help: As always, we have several volunteer opportunities.  More than fifty peopled helped with the spring sale.

  • We need help with set-up and take-down.  Strong backs and willing hearts are needed to move boxes of books from two rooms in the Library to the Rogers Room on Thursday, October 18 between 3:00 and 7:00.
  • Volunteers are also needed to put books on shelves and tables before the sale, during the day, October 18 and 19.
  • Another vital job is taking two-hour shifts cashiering during the days of the sale.
  • A final, big effort is required on Monday, October 29, 9:30 — 11:00. The remaining books have to be placed in bins and the room cleaned up after the sale.

Those who help with set-up, “minding the store” and clean-up get to take two free books for their efforts.

And of course, we welcome book donations any time!  Please bring books that are in good condition to the Library.  Library staff tells us that Wednesday evenings are the best time to bring books to the Library.

Annual meeting and Strategic Plan report

Friends’ annual meeting will be at 3:00PM on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 in the Rogers Room of the Forest Grove City Library, 2114 Pacific Ave.  Light refreshments will be served and everyone is invited.

At the meeting, Mike Smith, the Friends President, will report on the year including progress on the organization’s Strategic Plan.  You can see the plan with progress notes here.
