The Friends Board wants to briefly inform you about what the organization has been doing during the pandemic and what our plans are for an unusual annual meeting in April.
What we have been doing The Library was closed to the public in March of 2020. This suspended our normal work inside the building and forced cancellation of the usual Spring and Fall used book sales. We did not hold a board meeting in April which would have been our usual annual meeting. We resumed monthly board meetings via Zoom in May 2020.
Library staff continued to work in the building where they started an impressive array of online and curbside library services. Friends have been funding many of these programs. The Library remains closed to the public. We will not have a Spring 2021 used book sale but have some hopes for this fall.
Friends volunteers were granted limited access to the building beginning (essentially one Friends volunteer at a time) in June 2020. The Library again accepted donations of books and Friends resumed processing donations for online book sales. We have begun distribution of books to ‘little libraries’ in Forest Grove and have been providing free books for curbside distribution of children and, increasingly, to local non-profit organizations. Please keep those donations coming.
Memberships Our used book sales are our main occasion of contact members of Friends of the Forest Grove Library. Membership renewals usually coincide with used book sales. Absent the book sale, the Board has decided to extend all memberships to January 2022.
Annual meeting Our 2021 annual meeting will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, April 10 at 5:30 pm. The year’s activities will be reviewed, and officers elected.
